The St. Cloud Icebreakers spoiled new North Wright County head coach Cailyn McCauley’s debut by beating the River Hawks 3-0 Friday night in Albertville.
St. Cloud got on the board in the first period on a goal by Grace Laudenbach (Allie Cornelius, Gabbie Rud). The next goal came in the second period on the power play from Maddie Smith to make the score 2-0.
Gabbie Rud scored later in the third period to bring the score to 3-0 and the Icebreakers held the lead to get the shutout over the River Hawks.
The River Hawks went 0-5 on the power play. Shots were relatively even at 24 for the River Hawks and 23 for St. Cloud.
“It wasn’t because of lack of effort that we lost that game,” McCauley said. “I would say that we came out, we skated hard.”
NWC played Tuesday night against Hutchinson. The River Hawks play at Delano on Friday night.
