STMA Lady Knights soccer had a good week that saw the team defeat Cambridge-Isanti 6-1 on Tuesday and get a big win over Rogers 2-1 on Thursday. STMA finished the slate of games on Saturday with a 1-1 draw over Maple Grove.
The Knights routed the Blue Jackets Tuesday night in front of the home crowd in St. Michael.
STMA already led 2-0 in the first half when Makenzie Langdok got a penalty shot opportunity and capitalized on it, increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Blue Jackets got a breakaway of their own and Elaina Cox scored the lone goal of the night for Cambridge-Isanti early in the second half, but Molly Young answered back with a long goal.
Two more goals followed, with the final one scored by Tori Jensen in the final few minutes.
Head coach Megan Johnson felt that the team played very well to lock down the victory.
“I just think tonight was a really great effort on the team as a whole. They really finished some beautiful goals and all worked together,” Johnson said.
ROGERS
Tori Jensen and Makenzie Langdok scored in the first half and the Lady Knights held on to win an important game against the Rogers Royals; the team that kept STMA from making a return trip to the state tournament in 2015.
Rogers managed a goal from Claire Swan in the first half, but the Knights’ defense held through the rest of the game.
MAPLE GROVE
The Knights managed a 1-1 tie against the Crimson of Maple Grove.
Tori Jensen put one home for the Knights, and Maddie Rayta did the same for the Crimson. Two halves and overtime could not decide a winner.
The Lady Knights played at Big Lake Tuesday. Another big conference tilt with Buffalo awaits STMA Thursday night.
