STMA girls’ tennis had a 1-2 week with a win against Monticello and losses to Big Lake and Buffalo.
Down 2-3 to Monticello, the Lady Knights came back to win the final two matches to take the meet by a total score of 4-3.
Brianna Woitalla and Rachel Jenkins won their match (6-3, 2-6, 6-3), tying the overall score at 3-3.
Senior captain Cory Eull pulled out a big win (2-6, 6-0, 6-4) to clinch the meet in STMA’s favor. Other wins came from Alli Hinz (6-3, 6-1) and Brooke Beck (7-5, 6-1)
Big Lake proved to be too much of a challenge for the Knights to overcome as they lost 6-1.
Woitalla and Jenkins scored STMA’s only win of the match in doubles (3-6, 6-1, 10-7).
Against Buffalo, the Knights once again saw an even battle which ended in a 4-3 score in Buffalo’s favor.
STMA’s points came from Eull (6-2, 6-4), Woitalla and Jenkins (6-0, 6-3) and the #2 doubles team (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
Antony said he was impressed with the perfect record posted by Woitalla and Jenkins on the week.
“Anytime you are getting outcomes like that at the top of your lineup, you are going to have a chance to win a lot of your matches.”
