Knights softball goes 1-2 at Becker tournament

STMA softball lost to Princeton and got a 5-1 win against the Monticello Magic before going 1-2 at the Becker tournament.
Knights pitching struggled in a 6-3 loss to the Princeton Tigers on Tuesday. Riley Carlson gave up three runs in less than four innings of work. Brooke Burditt relieved her and gave up another three runs.
Maren Hamann, Elle Potts and Zoee Miller collected the runs for the Knights.

MONTICELLO
Katie Bierstedt drove in two runs as the Knights defeated Monticello 5-1 on Thursday.
Elle Potts drove in one run and Riley Carlson drove in another. Carlson also started at pitcher for the Knights. Potts pitched the seventh, but Carlson came back in to get the final out with the bases loaded.
Head coach Kellie Shumway said Potts pitched the seventh to get some experience for Saturday.
“We were fortunate enough to be able to throw her in a real game, even for just a little bit just to see how she did,” Shumway said.
The win equaled STMA’s total from the 2015 season.

BECKER
The Knights lost their first two games, but picked up a win in the final game of the Becker tournament on Saturday.
STMA led off against the #1 ranked team in the state, the Anoka Tornadoes. STMA lost 4-2.
Paige Falde and Maren Hamann had a pair of hits, and Annalise Davis had a hit and a walk. Falde and Elle Potts drove in STMA’s runs.
STMA lost its second game against Rocori 9-3. Potts drove in two of the three runs for the Knights in the defeat. Brooke Burditt gave up nine runs, though only six were earned.
The third game saw STMA win 6-3 against Park Center.
The Knights pounded out 16 hits against the Pirates. Potts and Katie Bierstedt each had two runs batted in for STMA. Davis had three hits and an RBI.
Riley Carlson went 2-4 and pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.
The Knights played Spring Lake Park on Monday and Rogers on Tuesday. The season continues with St. Cloud Tech on Thursday.
