Filing for area city councils, school boards begins Aug. 2

Filing for election begins Tuesday, Aug. 2, and ends Tuesday, Aug. 19.

The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8. Residents will be able to vote for their city election, as well as other state and federal government elections between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Up for election in Albertville is the two-year mayoral seat currently held by Jillian Hendrickson and four-year council seats held by John Vetsch and Larry Sorensen.

In Corcoran, the seat of Mayor Ken Guenthner will be on the ballot, with the winner serving for two years. The seats of City Councilors Pat Hank and Ron Thomas will be up for election, with winners serving for four years. City Councilors Mike Keefe and Tonya LaFave are scheduled to serve for two more years.

In Medina, the seat of Mayor Bob Mitchell is up for election for a two-year term. The City Council seats of Jeff Pederson and John Anderson also are up for election. Medina City Councilors serve for four years. City Councilors Kathleen Martin and Lorie Cousineau each have two years remaining in their terms.

Greenfield voters will decide who will represent them after the end of 2016, when the two-year term of Mayor Brad Johnson and four-year terms of councilor members Michael Erickson and Mark Holten expire.

Up for election in Hanover are the four-year seat of Mayor Chris Kauffman and four-year seats of city councilors John Vajda and Doug Hammerseng.

Rockford voters will decide Nov. 8 who will represent them after the end of 2016, when the four-year terms of Mayor Renee Hafften and Councilor members Jeannette Graner and Rick Martinson expire.

Up for election in Rogers is the two-year mayoral seat belonging to Mayor Rick Ihli and four-year council seats belonging to Darren Jakel and the late Don Hall. Filing for Rogers has already concluded, and the candidates will square off in the Aug. 9 primary election. These include Ihli, Gregory Bownik and Bob Ivey for mayor, and Daniel Bownik, Dale Fuller, Jakel, Shannon Klick, Keith Neis and Ron Porter for city council.

Up for election in St. Michael is the two-year term of Mayor Jerry Zachman and four-year terms of councilors Chris Schumm and Joe Marx.

Rockford Area School voters will decide Nov. 8 who will represent the district after the end of 2016, when the four-year terms of Board Members Kris Abrahamson, Todd Anderson and Kathy Smith expire.

Up for election in the St. Michael-Albertville School District are the four-year terms of Doug Birk, Carol Steffens and Drew Scherber.

The filing form is available through the Secretary of State’s office and requires candidates to affirm that they are eligible to vote in Minnesota, are at least 21 years of age or more upon assuming office, have lived in the city for at least 30 days and have not filed for any other office in the same election.
