STMA softball had an uneven week. The Lady Knights lost 10-0 to Elk River Monday, defeated Chisago Lakes 7-4 Tuesday, lost to Cambridge Isanti 5-0 and defeated Monticello 3-2 in extra innings.
The Knights lost 10-0 to Elk River on Monday. A quick start propelled the Elks to a 4-0 first inning lead. Five more runs followed in the third inning. Sophia Schutt had two hits for the Elks and Marie Deaton hit a home run.
STMA recorded just two hits (Brook Burditt, Annalise Davis) and made six errors. Riley Carlson pitched five innings, giving up 10 runs (six earned) and walking five batters.

CHISAGO LAKES
The Lady Knights had a much better day against the Wildcats, defeating Chisago Lakes 7-4.
Annalise Davis and Katie Bierstedt each drove in a pair of runs for the Knights. Cassie Schuster had a double. Burditt pitched a complete game and gave up three runs to earn the victory.

C-I
STMA took its second shutout loss of the week with a 5-0 defeat against the Blue Jackets.
Another quick start for the opposition hurt the Knights, as the Blue Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead. STMA recorded just four hits on the day; two of them belonged to Katie Bierstedt.
Riley Carlson took the loss for STMA.

MONTICELLO
Elle Potts got a clutch single in the tenth inning and the Knights beat the Magic 3-2.
Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, Lexy Fuerstenberg tied the game with a single. In the seventh, STMA loaded the bases, but a bizarre triple play sequence ended the inning and sent the game into extras.

In the top of the tenth inning, centerfielder Paige Falde dove to make a catch that prevented Monticello from taking the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Elle Potts, who hit the fly ball that turned into the earlier triple play, laced a single to the outfield to win the game.
Head coach Kellie Shumway said that Potts has the mentality for big spots, which helped her in the game-winning situation.
“We brought her up for a reason, and she’s been proving herself time and time again,” Shumway said.
The Knights played North Branch Tuesday, and return to action Thursday against St. Francis.
