STMA baseball is off to another solid start in 2016 (5-1 Mississippi 8, 7-1 overall) after wins over Monticello, Cambridge-Isanti and Chisago Lakes.
Monday, the Knights got a brilliant pitching performance from Travis Brown in a 2-0 win over the Monticello Magic.
The teams stayed locked at 0-0 until the fifth inning, when the Knights got cooking.
Marcus Krupke reached on a single and advanced all the way to third after a pair of wild pitches. Jack Kelly got on with a walk and reached second base. Dylan Fox drove in both runners with a single for the only two runs allowed on the afternoon.
Brown struck out six batters while giving up four hits in seven innings.
CHISAGO LAKES
Jack Kelly had a single, triple and RBI as the Knights defeated the Wildcats 4-2 Tuesday.
Henry Berning got his second win of the season, pitching five innings. A three-run fifth inning rally led STMA to victory. Kyle Hayden drove in a run for the Knights.
CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI
Marcus Krupke delivered a solid six-inning performance in a 3-0 win over the Blue Jackets Friday. Cambridge-Isanti actually out-hit the Knights six to five, but STMA used its hits to produce three runs.
Jack Kelly had a hit and walked twice. Travis Brown, Dylan Fox and Jacob Brown drove in the runs for STMA. The Knights scored in the first, fourth and fifth innings.
Rain canceled Monday’s game against Hopkins. STMA took its seven-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game against North Branch. The Knights head to St. Francis Thursday and play the rescheduled Hopkins game May 2.
