North Wright County lost 5-1 to Buffalo Thursday night and 3-0 to Sartell-Sauk Rapids Saturday.
Payton Rudiger (Taylor Thompson, Hannah Tormanen) broke through for a goal in the first period, making the score 1-0 for the Bison. Not long after that goal, Lindsay Finnerty broke away from the Buffalo defense to tie the game 1-1. Rudiger struck back on the power play to net Buffalo’s second lead (Thompson, Abby Halluska).
The rest of the game was all about Bison star Abby Halluska as she turned in a hat trick on the evening. Her first (Rudiger) came as the only goal of the second period, giving Buffalo a 3-1 lead.
Halluska’s second goal came shorthanded on an empty net, as the River Hawks had pulled goalie Julia Bogenholm for the extra attacker on a late power play. Halluska scored once more during the same NWC power play to wrap up the game.
“We gave them a little bit too much time, a little bit too much space, and those girls end up all over the stat sheet, and you’re not going to win many games when that happens,” head coach Jason Johnson said.
Bogenholm saved 35 shots for the River Hawks.
SARTELL
Saturday saw the River Hawks fall again by the score of 3-0 to Sartell-Sauk Rapids.
Megan Mohr scored first for SSR (Bria Ferns, Megan Cook). Mohr picked up a second goal in the next period (Bre Hess, Ferns), and Amanda Flemming followed suit (Ferns, Alexa Paulson) to cap the scoring.
Julia Bogenholm made 32 saves for the River Hawks.
The River Hawks hosted Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday. They host Anoka Thursday night.
