Knights hockey takes lopsided loss to Breck

The STMA Knights hockey team stuck with Breck (9-1) for a period, but things got ugly in the second period of a 9-1 loss.
Mitch Machlitt had a hat trick for the Mustangs. He provided the first goal of the game (Austin Heidemann, Carter Breitenfeldt). Brandon Heiber scored on the power play to tie the game in the opening period (Marshall Bjorlin, Jordan Drobinski), only for Chase Ellingson to give the lead back to Breck (Tyler Scott).
Austin Heidemann kicked off the big second period by making it 3-1 (Breitenfeldt, Machlitt). Ellingson got his second of the game to make it 4-1 (Scott, Nick Strom). Machlitt scored his second (Justin Paulson, Heidemann), Ellingson completed his own hat trick (Will Blake, Machlitt), Nick Strom scored to extend the lead to 7-1 (Blake, Ellingson), and Machlitt capped his night (Heidemann, Dalton Weigel).
Dalton Weigel scored the lone goal of the third period for Breck (Blake, Ellingson).
Kyle Hayden saved 13 shots for the Knights. He gave way to Justin Damon, who saved eight shots.
The Knights played Mounds View in the first round of the Schwan Cup tournament Monday. After the tournament, the Knights play Woodbury Saturday.
