North Wright County (7-6) split a pair of games, defeating Princeton 4-1 and falling 4-0 to Roseau.
McKayla Peterson scored twice for the River Hawks as they defeated the Princeton Tigers 4-1 at the Moose Sheritt Arena on Thursday night. Peterson scored her first goal in the first period (Paige Falde).
The Tigers’ Maggie Peterson scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game at one (Madisen Peterson, Eden Betzler) in the second period. The 1-1 score carried into the third period and Princeton stayed in the game despite being outshot 20-4 after two periods.
The success would not last, as the River Hawks scored three in the third to put the game away.
Greta Stanton led it off with a goal just a couple minutes into the period to break the tie (Rachel Lenz, Kenzie Kitzman). Peterson scored her second minutes later (Allie McCarthy), and Peyton Allen sent a long shot the length of the ice into an empty net to make it 4-1.
“That’s been the message that we’ve been continuing to preach to this group is just how hard that we work will allow us to be successful,” head coach Jason Johnson said.
Julia Bogenholm saved 11 shots for the River Hawks in the win.
ROSEAU
The River Hawks managed just nine shots on goal in a 4-0 loss against the Roseau Rams.
Roseau’s first goal came late in the first period as Saphire Moser tallied one on the power play (Ellice Murphy, Josee Lundgren). Josee Lundgren increased the lead to 2-0 in the second period (Murphy).
Lindsey Santl made it 3-0 in the same period on another power play goal (Murphy, Jenna Byfuglien). Maggie Crosson (Mack Bergstrom) scored Roseau’s last goal in the third period.
Julia Bogenholm saved 31 shots for North Wright County.
The River Hawks hosted Rogers on Tuesday. They face the St. Cloud Icebreakers (8-3) on Thursday and Hutchinson (5-2) on Saturday.
