The St. Michael-Albertville High School wrestling won four dual meets by defeating Monticello in a Conference dual Thursday, Dec. 10, then defeated Simley, Prior Lake, and Farmington Saturday, Dec. 12, in capturing the title in the Prior Lake Dual Meet Tourney.
All four of the dual meet wins were somewhat lop-sided in favor of the Knights. They defeated Monticello 64-4, Simley 53-15, Prior Lake 49-6, then beat Farmington by a score of 47-18. The Knight grapplers were impressive in that all 3 teams they defeated on Saturday were “state-rated” with Simley rated number one in “class AA”, Prior Lake rated number 8 in “class AAA”, and Farmington rated number 3 in “class AAA”.
Lucas Jeske (182 pounds) and Evan Ronsen (195) each were 4-0 (win-loss) with 3 pins each in the 4 duals. Patrick McKee (113), Mitch McKee (145), Jake Allar (152), and Evan Foster (285) all were undefeated for the week with 3-0 records, while Zac Schoen (126) and Max Jensen (220) were each 3-1, in the 4 duals. Mitch McKee had 3 pins for his 3 wins.
In an interesting individual match-up against Prior Lake, STMA defending state champion, Lucas Jeske, defeated Prior Lake’s state champion, Taylor Venz, by a score of 6-4 at 182 pounds.
The Junior Varsity Knight wrestlers defeated all of their opponents also, competing against the same 4 teams.
STMA assistant Coach Josh Joriman said, “We had some great success this past weekend on both the varsity and JV, not only because we went undefeated, but because of the way we wrestled in all matches. The guys were attacking, staying offensive, and wrestling through each period. We are happy with the amount of heart and perserverance shown this weekend.”
